Glassworks Industry Park, Christchurch

Glassworks Industry Park was built on the site of the old Crown Glass factory in Hornby in 2014. MSC provided structural engineering design for buildings for three major businesses – Bridgestone, DHL and Move Logistics – that took space in the park.

Bridgestone is the anchor tenant in a multi-unit building, a 5,275m2 development that fronts onto Halswell Junction Road and serves as a new entranceway to the Glassworks Industry Park. Bridgestone has taken a 12-year lease over the 1,125m2 front unit as a sales and servicing facility. The building is an 8m high steel portal frame structure with spans up to 23m, suitable for sub-division and merging of space.

DHL’s storage and distribution building occupies 6,870m2 of office and warehouse space, plus a large yard area under canopies. The building has a 9m high steel frame, with spans of up to 38m internally. Spine beams were used to ensure very few internal columns.

Move Logistics, a contract warehousing specialist with operations in Auckland and Christchurch, moved into a new 5,800m2 purpose-built facility consisting of a 12m high portal frame structure, with two 32m span steel internal frames.

“This development is an extension of projects undertaken for Goodman Property over the past few years,” says MSC CEO Murray Lockwood, “and we look forward to continuing our good working relationship with Goodman in the future.”
