Development at Hobsonville Point is occurring at a considerable rate. Hobsonville Point Road is a vital component of the development of the former airbase at Hobsonville. The Hobsonville Land Company engaged MSC as the head consultant for the Sunderland section of the project.
As development of Hobsonville Point progresses, a key aspect of the success of the development is the establishment of Hobsonville Point Road. This is the main spine road linking the peninsula to the nearby motorway network as well as key sectors within the development.
As the head consultant, MSC provided project management and engineering design and construction supervision services.
The Sunderland section of road includes two uncontrolled intersections and a high degree of urban design and landscaping. The road is between two and four lanes in cross-section with parking and cycle lane provisions. MSC was responsible for all highway geometrics, stormwater design (including flood mitigation), signing, white lining and pavement design.
Stormwater management included low impact stormwater treatment. The scheme required diversion of existing services and the provision of new services, all of which were coordinated and managed by MSC.
As well as the design of the roading scheme, MSC was responsible for consenting of the project, preparation of tender documentation, specification, issuing and evaluating of tenders and supervising the $6m construction contract.
This section of Hobsonville Point Road serves the proposed Marine Industry Precinct and links to the passenger ferry terminal opened to service the development.
