Childcare Centre | Education | Location: Browns Bay | Client: City Impact Church | Architects: Babbage Consultants Limited
MSC was engaged to provide structural engineering and construction observation for City Impact Church’s new childcare centre on Auckland’s North Shore.
The new childcare centre is a modern single-storey building with a large outdoor area accommodating an outdoor playground on one side and a carpark on the other. The centre caters for children aged from 3 months to 5 years and provides a safe and stimulating environment to learn and play.
The structure comprises light-weight timber and steel frames with a partially suspended concrete floor. Despite a high ceiling stud (up to 4.8m), the structural team was able to design a cost-effective solution by utilising GIB wall bracing to stabilise the building, which provides a suitable alternative to heavy concrete or steel bracing, significantly reducing construction costs for the client.
During the design process, the structural team worked closely with architects Babbage and also the Project Manager to ensure the design met the client’s expectations. The project was completed in 2020 and the childcare centre opened their doors in June 2020.
