Northland College was in desperate need of a rebuild when MSC Consulting was engaged to undertake structural engineering services for the educational facility.
The complete rebuild of Northland College in Kaikohe replaced wartime barracks used as classrooms for decades. The rebuild delivered a modern community and educational facility with 21 inter-connected spaces including a gym with associated dance and drama rooms, a whare which doubles as a hall for formal or community gatherings or can be split into discrete learning spaces, plus art and IT areas, labs and a kitchen.
MSC undertook structural design for the entire complex, which used structural steel portal frames and bifold or operable walls to ensure flexible use of the spaces
