Previously called the Maureen Plowman Rest Home, this Browns Bay, North Shore, beachside facility is being redeveloped by Oceania, transforming an old, single-level village into a premium modern senior living facility.
The retirement village will provide independent living in two- or three-bedroom apartments as well as spacious care suites (apartments with ensuite, lounge area, and kitchenette) for rest home and hospital level care. With the redevelopment creating a landmark in Browns Bay village, MSC worked with Oceania in infrastructural assessment and resource consenting for the multilevel, architecturally designed buildings, and also undertook civil engineering design for the siteworks, drainage and flood protection.
The latter was of particular concern as the development is so close to the beach; MSC engineers undertook calculations to ensure the habitable floor levels were all above projected flood levels, considering storm surges and the effects of climate change on sea level.
